When working alongside collaborators such as musicians, producers, audio engineers, or otherwise, you’ll often find yourself needing to make notes regarding mixing, mastering, and/or music production. Notetracks is an all-in-one cloud-based audio workspace that allows music collaborators to leave notes directly on audio tracks, eliminating the need for additional apps to record comments, feedback, and annotations.
To begin to leave notes for collaborators on mixing, mastering, or music production, open Notetracks, click the ‘New Project’ button in the top right corner, and select ‘audio’ as your file type. Proceed to give your music project a title.
Next, you’ll want to add in the track you’d like to leave mixing, mastering, or music production notes on. You can do so by either dragging and dropping the track, uploading directly from your computer, or importing from Dropbox or Google Drive.
Once your track has been fully uploaded to Notetracks, you’re ready to begin leaving notes along the waveform of your music project. To begin, ensure you’re in the ‘Comment’ pane in the top middle of the workspace.
Utilize the playback controls at the lower middle of the workspace to listen to the music project, and when you’re ready to insert a new note, click the ‘New Comment’ button to add a note exactly where you'd like to provide feedback without having to pause your music. If you have the audio paused, you can also double-click on the waveform at the exact spot you'd like to make a note on mixing, mastering, and music production.
Additionally, you can also highlight an entire timeframe (for example, from 00:10-00:20) for your collaborators to be able to see.
You’ll see a text box pop-up allowing you to leave a note at a specific timestamp. Type in your note, feedback, or comment into the box and press ‘Post’ when you’re done.
Your note is now visible in the workspace alongside your music project.
Your collaborators can also reply to notes – to do so, you’ll need to share your music project. To learn how to share your audio project with your collaborators, check out our How to Share Audio help blog.
